About The Overflow

The Overflow is my little corner of the internet, the place where all the bits and pieces that don’t fit anywhere else end up. Think of it as the spillover from my Bluesky or Mastodon feeds — the thoughts, opinions, and photographs that need more space than a scrolling timeline allows. Social media can be brilliant for quick updates, but it’s rarely the right place for nuance. Here, I can take my time, stretch out an idea, or share an image without worrying about algorithms or character counts.
I spend a chunk of my spare time writing for POST, a cultural and community-focused publication based in Aberdeen. That work has its own focus, but not everything I’m interested in sits neatly within it. The Overflow gives me a way to explore the other things I care about from tech and politics to photography and the odd dive into how we use (and are shaped by) social media and the web. It’s just what happens when curiosity outgrows the available space.
Nerdy by Nature
I’m a bit of a nerd by nature. I like figuring out how things work, asking awkward questions, and noticing the details other people might skip past. But I’m also aware that no one needs yet another middle-aged white guy wanging on endlessly about his opinions. So I’ll try to keep things focused, and hopefully interesting.
If you’ve landed here, there’s a good chance you already know me from somewhere else. That’s great. I’m writing this with you in mind. Thanks for checking things over here. Whether you stay for the photography, the opinion pieces, or just to see what’s caught my attention this week, I hope you find something worth your time.
